Elearning In Knowledge Economy

Learning as an activity has truly emulated the characteristics of internet medium. Learning on the internet medium has allowed us to condense time, streamlining transaction like say assessment, tracking etc. and made the best of learning material available in multimedia format( Thanks to the rapid spread of Broadband internet access), it also allows us to network with mentors, professors and colleagues making the learning activity more interactive than iterative. Elearning in this knowledge economy is the pivot that's churning out knowledge by providing ubiquitous learning opportunities, by transforming the traditional classroom based occasional learning exercise into any time anywhere activity.

Elearning has become modular means the training needs can be matched with user quality time by scheduling smaller more manageable learning portions which can be propogated anywhere

The internet is a self-governing and personal medium, and e-learning on the internet reflects this. Learning becomes learner centered rather than instructor centered, with designs that provide learners just the information they want, when they want it. This learning is also active, rather than passive. E-learning incorporates and encourages peer-to-peer learning: While learners have access to the experts, they also learn from other sources from interaction which is proven to be more effective methodology

Internal e-learning communities can act as a powerful means to spread a new management philosophy, train up-and-coming managers, and transform organizational cultures to be more collaborative and innovative. Especially in the present times when the economy is in shambles due a prolonged recession, providing abundant learning opportunities will elavte the skills sets and fosters an environment of innovation and growth.

Companies are also using e-learning communities to build and leverage strategic advantage. E-learning can be a vehicle for effective development of corporate and new business strategy, as well as a way to extend the learning and effective interaction beyond the corporate doors to the whole supply chain.

E-learning communities allow corporations to harness and optimize knowledge and to spread it quickly throughout the organization. Connecting knowledge workers is critical to the successful execution of complex projects and strategic initiatives. In many cases, companies are recognizing that the best ideas frequently reside within exceptional individuals who may lack the opportunity to learn, assimilate and work in teams, thereby creating impediments within the organization that prevent ideas from becoming actions.
